How to use the Find & Replace
- Paste your text
- Enter what to find and what to replace it with
- Choose options (match case, whole word, regex), then copy the result
About this tool
Plain mode treats your search text literally, so characters like “.” or “?” match themselves. Turn on Regex to use JavaScript regular expressions. In the replacement, $1, $2 and so on insert capture groups, and $& inserts the whole match. For example, find (\d+)-(\d+) and replace with $2/$1 to swap two numbers.
Frequently asked questions
Can I replace with nothing?
Yes. Leave the replacement empty to delete every match.
What does “whole word” do?
It only matches the search text when it is not part of a longer word, so replacing “cat” leaves “category” alone.
Can I replace line breaks?
Turn on regex and search for \n. The Remove Line Breaks tool is simpler for most cases.
